Three years ago I was a mess. Metabolically, physically, mentally, and hormonally a mess. Thankfully I was also at a place of questioning the conventional “treatment” of all my conditions and knew that I wanted to get to the bottom of my symptoms and not just cover them up with prescriptions.

Two years and two months ago, my husband and I dove in head-first to the ketogenic diet. We saw incredible changes right away. Our world as we knew it was turned upside down. Everything we thought we knew about what to eat, how to fuel our bodies, and what we believed was healthy for us completely threw us for a loop. We attempted to undo years of misinformation, lies, and damage by reading and researching as much as we could about this holistic, food-therapy way of life. We were angry, horrified, and inspired all at the same time. Taking the time to learn about this new way of life was the difference between it simply being another diet and knowing that this was our forever lifestyle.

As you’d expect, this lifestyle wasn’t strictly about the food we put in our bodies. It naturally led me down the path of realizing that what we put ON our bodies is just as important. It also led to more feelings of anger, horror, and inspiration as I learned about all the harmful chemicals that are allowed in our personal care products. I immediately committed to cleaning up my skincare and makeup. I had already done this with my cleaning products, but it never dawned on me that the products I put on my skin could be just as damaging.

I searched everywhere online and found several Paleo-aligned skincare companies, and I tried almost everything they offered, but didn’t fall in love with any of it. It was just ok, but I continued to use it knowing that it was a safer option for me. Soon enough, I kept seeing this company, named Beautycounter, popping up in my searches and social media newsfeeds. I had no idea who they were or what the company was about, but after seeing endless reviews of their charcoal cleansing bar, I decided to give it a shot! The cleansing bar was pretty much life-changing for my skin. My jawline acne started to clear up and my skin didn’t look nearly as dull. But it still took me a while to try their other products, simply because I hadn’t looked into their mission or company yet.

I slowly started trying their makeup, starting out with a lip gloss and a cream blush, and eventually bought one of their holiday eyeshadow palettes and was sold from the first moment I put it on my eyes! I had finally found a high-performing cosmetics company similar to the MAC and Sephora I was accustomed to, yet safer and cleaner. Last summer, I decided to branch out and try some eye and face creams and again fell in love. This company was quickly becoming my favorite. It was also then that my consultant sent me a sample of the newly launched Overnight Resurfacing Peel (thanks Julie). Three nights of using that and my face had never looked better. I was sold. Right then and there I knew I’d be trying everything they had! It was about that time that I really started paying attention to Julie’s posts about Beautycounter and realized just how amazing this company is.

Until then, I had no idea there hadn’t been a major law passed regarding skincare since 1938. Until then, I didn’t know that Canada bans over 600 harmful ingredients and the European Union bans over 1400. Imagine my shock and rage when I learned that the U.S. only bans 30! THIRTY! It’s completely unacceptable. Beautycounter won me over even further when I learned they ban 1500 harmful ingredients. How refreshing to know that I don’t have to read every single ingredient on every label to know whether or not it’s safer for me. I can do that though because Beautycounter fully discloses all their ingredients. You won’t find harmful chemicals hiding under the proprietary rights label of  “fragrance”!

So what finally made me jump in as a consultant? Learning about Beautycounter’s mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone, even if they aren’t Beautycounter products was a huge selling point. I love that they send their consultants to DC to lobby for stricter skincare laws. I love that they want every skincare/cosmetics company to be upheld to their same strict standards. I love that they want the entire industry to change instead of being the only company out there who offers safer, cleaner beauty. I love that they are empowering women to stand up and say we won’t accept anything less. I love the business plan. Sure, it’s direct sales, but I would venture to say that it’s the best one out there with the best compensation plan. After all, this mission is truly best told person to person, friend to friend! Having these products placed in a department store along side all the other high-end brands wouldn’t compare to what they are achieving now through word of mouth!

OH! And I especially love the consultant discount! Who wouldn’t want these incredible products at 25% off? And now that I’m fully in it, I love the camaraderie and the inspirational women who are a part of this movement. I am so excited to see where this year takes me.  I know my possibilities are endless!

If you have any specific questions about Beautycounter, the products, or the business opportunity, I’d love to be the one to share it with you!
